How to read the pronunciation guide
Tone marks: a = mid, à = low, â = falling, á = high, ǎ = rising. Doubled vowels are long. ŋ is the ng sound; y is as in yes. ɛ, ɔ, ə and ʉ represent distinct vowel sounds. ph, th and kh have a puff of air; th is not English th.
pay, mǎy and ŋ correspond to pai, mǎi and ng in other guides. Hyphens may separate syllables. This is a simplified reading guide, not an exact transcription of the recording. หนังสือ is shown as nǎŋsʉ̌ʉ and เขา as khǎw; naŋsʉ̌ʉ and kháw also occur in fluent speech.
